An ECOFIN company
About Us
Proven by the past. Driven by the future.
Finsuite
Finsuite is powered by ECOFIN – a trusted leader in financial technology and services with over 30 years of innovation and deep industry expertise.
Finsuite’s data models, originally designed and developed by ECOFIN, have evolved through collaboration with leading financial institutions such as SIX Financial Information, Credit Suisse, and UBS. Initially adopted by these major players, along with WM Datenservice and several Swiss private banks, Finsuite’s models have since become a global standard. They are widely utilized by banks, stock markets, data vendors, hedge funds, software providers, and other financial institutions.
Our History
1986
ECOFIN was founded in 1986 by Prof. Dr. Martin Janssen.
1987
ECOFIN contributed to the definition of the Swiss Stock Exchange index family and, starting in 1987, implemented and calculated the SMI® and from 1992 to 1997 also the SPI® and the Swiss Stock Exchange bond indices in software.
1991
In 1991, a 10-year project began with the former SBG (now UBS AG), the Swiss Credit Institute (now Credit Suisse) and Telekurs AG (now SIX Financial Information AG) to further expand the FIDM™ and to define the Telekurs AG securities data feed. The project was a great success for all parties. The FIDM™ is still in use today, 25 years after work began, essentially unchanged. Since 1991, ECOFIN has also been active in Switzerland and the EU in advising institutional investors.
1996
Between 1996 and 1997, ECOFIN developed a concept for an anonymous, fully electronic payment medium based on the logic of eCash® from DigiCash. The joint company founded on this basis with Credit Suisse was active for about two years, but then went under at the end of 1999 due to the sale of the patent rights to new owners. The DigiCash company was closed down almost at the same time.
1998
From 1998, ECOFIN designed a "Robo Advisor", which went online in 2001 together with the Neue Zürcher Zeitung under the name NZZ-Finfox. The new platform quickly became the largest financial platform in Switzerland with several 100,000 unique users and at times more than 100 parallel online sessions. Ultimately, due to an inadequate business model – the courage for a real online advisor with transaction options was lacking – the platform went under again in 2007.
2002
Since 2002, ECOFIN has been implementing software solutions and projects for banks, independent asset managers and insurance companies based on asset-liability management. ECOFIN has developed great expertise in this area, which – depending on the application for insurance companies, pension funds, foundations or other investors – comes into play to varying degrees.
2003
Since 2003, ECOFIN has been organizing comprehensive pension solutions for pension funds, collective foundations and pension schemes on the basis of the NOVENTUS platform together with partners. The NOVENTUS platform or its owner, NOVENTUS PensionPartners AG, thus developed into a purchasing cooperative for services in the context of occupational pensions. In 2018, the management of the pension foundations "NoventusCollect" and "Noventus-Collect Plus" was transferred to VVPK Consulting GmbH.
2004
With the takeover of Calanda Technology AG, a spin-off of UBS AG, with its software product "UBS Quotes", ECOFIN expanded its activities in 2004 to include the receipt, storage, processing and visualization of time series. There are countless applications: price data for financial instruments, medical data, household electricity consumption, traffic measurements, economic data of all kinds. "UBS Quotes", now "FINSUITE", became the basis for the highly automated platform "OPTIDAT", which was developed in the following years. On this platform, customer-specific benchmarks can be calculated, interest structures estimated or key figures for asset and sub-asset classes provided.
